Hello, my name is Dylan Bulmer. In summary, I'm an entrepreneur, software engineer, privacy enthusiast, and trumpeter.
Currently, I am working with TrustedRentr, a startup in Maine, where I mainly focus on software engineering. I'm also involved in business strategy, marketing, and graphic design for the company. Recently, we were selected to be in a new business accelerator in Maine - Dirigo Labs. We are very excited about what the near future may hold! Read more from TrustedRentr at https://trustedrentr.com/blog.
I am also a part of the Privacy Engineering - Research Compliance Lab (PERC_Lab) at the University of Maine. My focus here is the privacy of software, most commonly working with social media privacy. In the fall of 2021, my research partners and I published a paper, “Lattice-base Contextual Integrity Analysis of Online Social Networks,” where we developed a framework called LCIA that can score OSNs based on the ambiguity of their privacy policy. This framework utilizes Dr. Helen Nissimbaum's work on Contextual Integrity and Kambiz Ghazinour's Lattice-Based Privacy Aware Access Control Model. You can find the abstract and conference slides on my publications page, as well as links to the paper and my partner's website, where the research outcomes and results are hosted. Other than that, at the PERC_Lab, I help develop several tools and create connections with the community.
Outside of work and academics, I'm a musician. I initially learned the trumpet and have played it for the past 12 years. After becoming proficient with the trumpet, I also learned bits and pieces of the alto saxophone, mellophone, and piano. I'm not very good at these other instruments, but I always give it my best. At the University of Maine, I played the trumpet in the Pride of Maine, Black Bear Marching band, and the Scream'n Black Bear Pep Band. These bands were my favorite parts of my college experience. There is nothing like playing in the Alfond Arena for Hockey games!
Now that you know more about me let's talk about what to expect on my website. At the University of Maine, I prepare and present many guest lectures. Over time I will be converting these into blog posts to publish here. I will also post some of my research project updates, and I may also make weekly posts about my development progress on other various projects, such as upgrades to my home lab, fun web app projects, etc. If interested, feel free to view my public repositories at https://github.com/DylanBulmer.
